THE EVOLUTION OF URDU NON-FICTION LITERATURE IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, renowned for its natural beauty, historical heritage, and diverse cultural traditions, also holds a distinguished position in the promotion and development of Urdu language and literature. In this region, Urdu non-fiction literature has undergone remarkable growth during different periods. Literary genres such as biography, autobiography, character sketches, travel writing, essays, letter writing, article writing, and research and critical prose have played a significant role in this development. Through these genres, not only have the social, cultural, religious, and political aspects of the region been reflected, but public sentiments, cultural values, and intellectual trends have also been effectively preserved.
