Abstract
Nigerias stalled development presents a daunting challenge for its democratic trajectory, especially when viewed from the angle of leadership. Decades after the restoration of civilian rule in 1999, Nigeria still grapples with underdevelopment as evidenced by endemic corruption, lack of institutional capacity, lack of accountability, and lack of visionary leadership. This study examines the nexus between democratic institutions and developmental performance as mediated by the quality of leadership.
